Doechii made a striking entrance at the Met Gala 2026, stepping onto the red carpet without shoes and turning a bold styling choice into a personal statement.

The Grammy-winning artist arrived in a custom look by Marc Jacobs, wearing a deep burgundy and purple ensemble that featured an asymmetric silhouette with draped fabric across her chest and lower body. The garment revealed her abdomen and looped across her left side, while a matching maroon and purple head wrap completed the look. Her hair was mostly concealed beneath the twisted piece, allowing her makeup to stand out, with dramatic lashes, soft blush, light green eye shadow, and glitter accents across her face.

Her barefoot appearance was not an afterthought. Doechii revealed that she had henna applied to her feet specifically to complement the look and eliminate the need for heels. She accessorized with anklets that highlighted the intricate designs, along with drop earrings featuring purple, yellow, and green stones, and a stack of chunky gold bangles.

Speaking on the carpet, she explained the intention behind the decision. “It’s very comfortable, but also very vulnerable,” she said. “I feel like bare feet, it signifies a groundedness. I’m not scared of the floor.” She added, “I wanted to go with something very human and vulnerable and grounding.”

The choice aligned with her evolving approach to fashion, where expression and meaning guide her style. It also wasn’t the first time she opted out of traditional footwear. In 2025, she attended a Chloé show barefoot while seated front row, signaling an ongoing preference for unconventional presentation.

Born Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon, Doechii has built a reputation for her distinctive style, and her Met Gala appearance continued that trajectory. Every detail of her look, from the draped fabric to the henna-adorned feet, worked together to deliver a cohesive statement rooted in comfort, vulnerability, and presence.
