Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has ripped into Trump after refusing to say anything remotely civil about the late Rep. John Lewis.
“Donald Trump shows us time and time again that the only thing he believes in is himself,” she said on CNN. “He doesn’t care anything about the American people, he doesn’t care anything about the history of this country, he doesn’t care anything about the future of this country.”
During his interview with Axios, Trump refused when asked to agree that Lewis’ legacy was impressive — and instead whined about Lewis not attending his inauguration. He then touted that he has done “more for Black Americans” than he has.
“Donald Trump shows us time and time again that the only thing he believes in is himself,” she said. “He doesn’t care anything about the American people, he doesn’t care anything about the history of this country, he doesn’t care anything about the future of this country.”
She continued, “If this man is allowed to serve as president for another four years, we will be in even more trouble than we are in now,” she said. “He is destroying our democracy in real time, and we have to respond in the best way that we know how, the way that John Lewis taught us to respond, that is, to show up and vote.
“He’s delusional. He’s a narcissist and he is delusional,” Bottoms said. “He’s done nothing for African Americans in this country, and to speak that in the same sentence as John Lewis is almost blasphemous.”
