Update! Tina Knowles-Carter, Beyoncé’s mother and unwavering supporter, has set the record straight after a viral comment she allegedly made to Dolly Parton caused a social media frenzy.
Ms. Tina has denied making a viral remark criticizing Dolly Parton for backing the Country Music Association’s (CMA) decision to exclude Beyoncé from this year’s awards ceremony.
Last night, Beyoncé’s mother allegedly clapped back at the country music legend after Parton supported the CMA’s judgment.
Dolly Parton defended the CMAs, citing the abundance of already established country music artists as why “Cowboy Carter” could not make it on this year’s CMA nominations list.
“There’s so many wonderful country artists that, I guess probably the country music field, they probably thought, well, we can’t really leave out some of the ones that spend their whole life doing that,” Dolly Parton explained.
In the comments section, Ms. Tina addressed Dolly directly, defending her daughter’s accomplishments and criticizing Parton’s claim that Beyoncé had not “spent her life” in country music. She also highlighted her daughter’s extensive and versatile career, adding, “She’s mastered her craft and broken records in every genre.”
Beyoncé’s mother allegedly went on to argue that her daughter’s talent and work ethic speak for themselves and that she should not be limited to a single genre.
“So saying she didn’t ‘spend her life’ in country music dismisses all the work she put in,” Ms Tina continued. “Bey don’t need to stay in one lane to get respect.”
The comment quickly went viral online, with many fans praising Tina Knowles for standing up for her daughter. However, as the statement went viral, Ms. Tina took to social media to clarify that it was not hers.
Tina shared a brief message on her Instagram story, denying the comment’s authenticity: “This is fake. Not from me!”
Fans had mixed feelings about Tina’s backpedaling. While many were relieved that there was no feud between the two music icons, others couldn’t help but joke about how Beyoncé might have asked her mother to clear the air.
“Beyoncé said take it down NOW 😂😂. Especially when Dolly personally gave Beyonce the okay to cover her song. But the mama in Tina jumped out without thinking first,” a fan commented.
Another added, “Oh baby, she got the call from Bey to take it down. LMAO!!!!!”
“She does this all the time 🤦🏽♀️ does something slick, it goes viral, and then she backtracks. So sick of them,” another added.
