Dr. Venus Opal Reese, a respected voice in Black economic empowerment, is urging the Black community to harness its financial power in the face of systemic economic inequality.
In a powerful Instagram video, she stressed the urgency of supporting Black-owned banks, businesses, and entrepreneurship as a strategy for economic resilience.
Her message was clear: “Black money supersedes white power.”
She highlighted the staggering $1.7 trillion spending power within the Black community, urging individuals to be intentional about where they invest and spend their dollars.
“If you are a business owner and you’re not banking Black, you are funding oppression,” she warned, explaining how traditional banks use deposits to finance developments that often exclude Black communities.
By shifting financial habits and embracing collective economics, Reese argues, Black Americans can build generational wealth and reclaim economic agency.
Reese also spoke about the importance of entrepreneurship under a business-driven economic system. “Trump moves in business. This is about money, baby. If you don’t start writing things off and having different revenue streams, you’re missing out,” she said, encouraging her audience to establish businesses and leverage financial strategies to their advantage.
Her impassioned call to action resonates deeply as movements like #BankBlack and Black-owned bank mergers gain momentum. She urged viewers to stay focused and not be discouraged, reminding them:
“God is with us. We are a genius. We are the standard. Do not get confused.”
