Businesswoman Killed in Alleged Murder-for-Hire Plot Orchestrated by Estranged Husband

San Bernardino authorities have arrested five suspects, including Jessica Torres’ estranged husband, Sergio Reveles, in what investigators describe as a murder-for-hire plot amid a contentious divorce.

Torres, a well-known businesswoman in San Bernardino, was shot and killed outside Burger Point on Jan. 10, 2025.

Initially thought to be a robbery gone wrong, the case took a dark turn when police uncovered an alleged premeditated assassination ordered by her husband.

Surveillance footage shows Torres walking toward her car when a suspect vehicle pulls up. A man, later identified as Gerardo Yamos, exits the vehicle, struggles with Torres over her purse and a weapon, and ultimately shoots her as she attempts to flee.

Authorities later found the suspect’s SUV abandoned, leading them to additional suspects. Police believe the shooter, his getaway driver, and two other men were all hired by Reveles to carry out the murder.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, the San Bernardino Police Department confirmed that Reveles, who owned multimillion-dollar properties with Torres, allegedly paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to have her killed.

“These criminals targeted this victim in a murder-for-hire scheme stemming from a contentious divorce,” police said.

Authorities have not released further details on the financial arrangements behind the alleged contract killing.

Reveles and the four men accused of carrying out the killing are now in custody. Prosecutors are considering special circumstances enhancements, which could lead to life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

“The tragedy of having an individual essentially assassinated at one of her favorite eateries in San Bernardino is very, very sad,” officials stated.

The case remains under investigation.
