Authorities have confirmed the death of Joycelyn Nicole Wilson, a senior mathematics instructor at Spelman College, after her body was recovered from Lake Oconee last Sunday morning, Feb 9. 2025.

The search continues for the second individual believed to have been on board the abandoned boat found circling near Wallace Dam on Saturday, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) launched a search after game wardens discovered an empty vessel on Lake Oconee.

Witnesses reported seeing two people aboard earlier that day. On Sunday at approximately 9:55 a.m., authorities located Wilson’s body during a surface search, but the missing man, identified by Westminster Schools as faculty member and coach Gary Jones, has not yet been found.

The DNR has not publicly confirmed Jones’ identity, stating that they will do so only after he is located or the search is completed.

Inclement weather in North Georgia temporarily halted search efforts on Wednesday, but officials plan to resume when conditions improve.
