Rapper JT has sparked a significant discussion on makeup inclusivity after calling out Gucci Beauty for their new “Glow Skin Tint.”

The gorgeous rapper shared a photo of the product lineup on her Instagram Story, questioning, “Are they color blind?”

Gucci’s latest complexion collection features 20 shades, but only four cater to deeper skin tones. This disparity has sparked a heated debate online, with fans and beauty enthusiasts chiming in.

One might assume that after Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty made waves with its extensive range of over 40 foundation shades, other makeup brands would follow suit. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. Earlier this year, beauty creator Golloria criticized YouthForia for introducing an almost jet-black foundation that was mocked for its impractically dark shade. Similarly, YSL Beauty faced backlash for a lilac cream blush they touted as “universally flattering.”

This challenge is something Black consumers are all too familiar with. For years, the beauty industry has overlooked the need for products that cater to a diverse range of skin tones. This lack of inclusivity often results in makeup that leaves an unwanted “ashy” finish or necessitates mixing several shades to achieve a proper match.

The lack of inclusivity in makeup extends beyond foundations. Blushes, bronzers, lipsticks, the entire color cosmetics world still leaves brown skin behind. While some homegrown and indie brands are trying to fill the gap, like Fenty, Juvia’s Place, Kay Beauty, and Lovechild by Masaba, major brands often lag behind.
