Vice President Kamala Harris made a notable stop at Paschal’s Restaurant, a historic Black-owned eatery in Atlanta, Georgia, as part of her presidential campaign.

Harris, who recently announced her bid for the presidency, is vying to become the first Black woman and first South Asian American president of the United States.

On July 30, 2024, Harris’s visit to Atlanta marked her 15th trip to Georgia and her first as the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Addressing a crowd, she acknowledged the importance of the state in the upcoming election.

“The path to the White House runs right through this state,” Harris stated, according to ABC News. “You all helped us win in 2020, and we’re going to do it again in 2024.”

Paschal’s Restaurant, established in 1947 by brothers James and Robert Paschal, is renowned for its soul food, including its famous fried chicken, braised short ribs, smothered pork chops, and peach cobbler.

The restaurant has long been a gathering place for political leaders and civil rights activists.

During her visit, Harris was welcomed by Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, Representative Nikema Williams (D-Georgia), and U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.

Paschal’s has hosted many notable figures over the years, including Aretha Franklin, Andrew Young, former Vice President Al Gore, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The restaurant expressed gratitude for Harris’s visit on Instagram, stating:

“As a cornerstone in the heart of Atlanta’s history, Paschal’s has always been a gathering place for political leaders and civil rights icons. It’s only fitting that Vice President Harris joined us today, continuing our legacy of hosting trailblazers and changemakers. Thank you, VP Harris, for your visit and for recognizing the significance of Paschal’s in the story of our nation.”
