Singer-songwriter recently visited “The Breakfast Club,” where she chopped it up with DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God to talk about her upcoming project.

Fans are awaiting her next album and Kehlani is not committing herself to a release date just yet. However, she did open up about Nick Cannon transforming her life.

“Let’s be honest… I write love songs. I really like writing about love. Love is how I think I learned about myself most in this life. Now I’m 26. And I’m dropping songs that are just about … I don’t need anybody. And I think I was coming from such a place of like, need in the past. You can hear it. You can hear it in the lyrics,’ she shared.

Kehalni revealed that for a while, she was hesitant about performing her old love songs, as they were based on previous relationships and often held painful memories.

However, we may not have heard a lot of Kehlani’s music had Nick Cannon not taken her under his wing.

The pair met at “America’s Got Talent,” and she says he offered her several opportunities.

“He changed my life forever. That’s family to me,” Kehlani said. “So when there’s all these conversations, and I’ve been waiting to say this somewhere, but while there’s all these conversations that’s picking him apart and like, people can call him corny and people can call him whatever. He silently has changed the lives of so many people. He asked for nothing in return. You would have no idea.”

“America’s Got Talent” and years after her appearance on the show, Cannon reached out with multiple opportunities and helped propel her career.

Kehlani’s last album, “It Was Good Until It Wasn’t,” was released during the pandemic.

“It was a trip, because we finished it right before quarantine really started. We had to figure out how to maneuver and still release an album through it, which was a really cool thing to do because we had to get creative,” she told Elle last month.
