Leadership Expert Ginny Clarke Urges Professionals to Shift From ‘Me’ to ‘We’ Thinking in Viral Workplace Insight

by Gee NY

Former Google executive and leadership strategist Ginny Clarke is once again challenging professionals to think bigger—and lead smarter.

In a powerful new video post shared on Instagram (@ginny_clarke), Clarke underscores a pivotal mindset shift she says determines long-term career relevance: replacing “me” thinking with “we” thinking. Far from just being noble or idealistic, Clarke argues that this shift is strategic—and essential—for building influence and becoming indispensable at work.

“The shift from ‘me’ to ‘we’ thinking isn’t just noble—it’s strategic. It’s how you become indispensable rather than irrelevant and expendable,” Clarke said in the now-viral clip.

A Moment of Truth at Work

Clarke’s message centers on how professionals respond when workplace decisions don’t go their way. She calls it a “moment of truth”—where people either default to resentment and small-picture thinking or choose to ask better questions and lead with understanding.

“You can be the person who immediately makes it about themselves, who assumes malice, who spreads negativity—or you can be the person who models the kind of thinking that actually moves organizations forward,” she said.

Her challenge to professionals: for the next 30 days, pause when tempted to ask “How does this affect me?” and instead ask, “What’s the bigger picture here?”

The mindset shift, Clarke explains, builds trust, strategic leverage, and long-term relevance in increasingly complex organizational environments.

Real Leadership, Real Talk

Clarke, who previously led executive recruiting at Google and now runs her own leadership consulting firm, is known for delivering what she calls “leadership insights that actually work.”

She has long urged leaders—especially underrepresented professionals navigating corporate spaces—to resist the trap of short-term ego responses and instead lean into vision, values, and collaborative influence.
