Lizzo is not paying attention to the haters and is lauding herself and a body icon. The full-figured, Grammy Award-winning artist is People Magazine‘s newest cover star. Of course, as with many Lizzo interviews, her size was brought up.. but she wants people to get over it.
“Okay, we all know I’m fat. I know I’m fat. It doesn’t bother me. I like being fat, and I’m beautiful and I’m healthy. So can we move on?,” she said.
Lizzo says she wants there to be a shift from curvier women to be overlooked as just the “the funny friend,” or “the friend who is gonna beat your ass ’cause she’s big. Or it’s the big girl who’s insecure ’cause she’s big,” but she’s none of those things. “I don’t think I’m the only kind of fat girl there is. I want us to be freed from that box we’ve been put in,” she said.
Lizzo wants also to be recognized for her killer curves: “I think I have a really hot body! I’m a body icon, and I’m embracing that more and more every day. It may not be one person’s ideal body type just like, say, Kim Kardashian might not be someone’s ideal, but she’s a body icon and has created a modern-day beauty standard. And what I’m doing is stepping into my confidence and my power to create my own beauty standard. And one day that will just be the standard.”
And it’s not just all talk…
In January, the singer rang in the New Year by celebrating putting on a few extra pounds. Lizzo posted a video of herself wearing a chocolate brown one-piece and gyrating in what appears to be her bathroom.“Bruh I’m gaining weight I look tf GOODT” the Savage Fenty ambassador captioned the clip.
