Marsai Martin to Executive Produce and Star in New Film, ‘Little’

by Yah Yah

While black-ish‘s Yara Shahidi has moved on to star in her own spin-off, her co-star Marsai Martin (who plays her onscreen sister, Diane, in the series) has some big things poppin’ too!

Martin will not only be playing the lead in an upcoming film, Little, the brainchild of Will Packer and Kenya Barris; she also came up with the script idea and will be taking on the role of executive producer for the project. Major news!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Little “centers on a woman who gets the chance to relive the carefree life as her younger self (Martin), when the pressures of adulthood become too much.”

Screenwriter and director Tina Gordon Chism (Drumline, ATL) has penned the film’s most recent draft and has been tapped to direct. The initial draft of the screenplay was written by Girls Trip screenwriter Tracy Oliver.

It’s exciting to see young Black women being nurtured and encouraged to flourish within the entertainment industry. We cannot wait to see just what magic Marsai Martin creates with Little. With the likes of Kenya Barris, Oprah Winfrey and Tracee Ellis Ross in her corner – the sky is the limit!

Packer and James Lopez, (producers of Girls Trip) are producing through Will Packer Productions along with black-ish creator Barris. The black-ish actress will be executive producing alongside Regina Hall and Josh Martin.

The Packer and Barris team is mighty. Their last movie to hit the theaters broke records and racked up a whopping $140 million worldwide!

Congrats, Marsai! Another ‘W’ for #BlackGirlMagic
