In Kenner, Louisiana, a story of courage has emerged from a near tragedy. Five-year-old Chloe Woods is being celebrated as a hero after saving her blind grandmother and family dog from a house fire last week.
When the family’s fire alarm went off, Chloe sprang into action, recalling lessons she had learned just weeks earlier during a fire safety field trip to the Kenner Fire Department.
Acting quickly, she told her grandmother to hold onto her shoulder as she guided her safely out of the home. She also managed to rescue the family dog before running outside to shout: “Call 911! My house is on fire!”

Her mother, Shone Arceneaux, told local station THV11 that Chloe’s calm leadership and bravery were remarkable for a child her age.
“She told her grandmother to hold on to her shoulder and that they needed to get out of the house,” Arceneaux said.
Kenner Fire Chief John Hellmers praised the young girl’s actions, calling them “truly exceptional.”
He credited her ability to stay composed under pressure to the fire safety lessons she had recently received. “She saved her grandmother’s life and her own life,” Hellmers said.
Officials stated that Chloe’s story highlights the life-saving importance of fire safety education, especially for young children. Her quick thinking not only prevented a tragedy but also reinforced the power of preparation in the face of emergencies.
Although the incident happened in 2016, Chloe Woods’ bravery has inspired her community and beyond, showing that even the youngest among us can rise to the moment and become heroes.
