A 19-year-old who was shot and pronounced dead at the hospital where she was being treated has left a family devastated and in investigators on the hunt for the killer.

Aniyah Womack was 19 at the time of her untimely passing. Her mother, speaking to Action News Jax, said that seeing her daughter without life inside of her was the hardest thing she has ever experienced.

“Just to be there and see my baby lifeless and say my final goodbyes was one of the hardest things,” Andrea Brown told the outlet while in tears. “She was my everything, we did everything, she was like my little best friend. “I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

Womack was found in critical condition on a sidewalk in Jacksonville. Police have not determined where exactly the shooting took place. She was rushed to a local hospital where she died hours later.

Shortly after news broke of Brown’s daughter’s death, she said she and the victim were extremely close.

“She was just such a bubbly person she would do anything for you,” Brown said. “We had the best relationship; she was my twin.”

It is unclear if there was motive in her killing although police have confirmed that two people dropped Womack on the sidewalk where she was found shot. Police also are unclear whether the people who dropped her off were good Samaritans or suspects.

Womack’s cousin Autumn Redding also stated that when she was dropped off at the hospital, she was unable to be identified and was taken in as “Jane Doe.”

“We’re trying to figure out who she was with, who here so-called friends were, who the people she trusted that know more information so we can get justice,” she said.

The victim’s grandmother Gail Taylor said she spoke with her just one day before she died.

“I called her yesterday and I said, ‘When are you coming home?’ and she said, ‘I’ll be home tomorrow Nana’,” Taylor said.

No suspects have been named in the case. Police is asking that anybody with information call JSO or First Coast Crime Stoppers.
