Nola Darling, played by DeWanda Wise, gets harassed by a male while walking home. He becomes physical with Nola, grabbing her by the wrist and spewing profanities as she breaks free and runs away. Following the attack, Nola makes posters that say “My Name Isn’t….” and uses different derogatory terms that women often get called to finish.
The episode was partly inspired by the work of Brooklyn-based artist Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, who launched the “Stop Telling Women To Smile” campaign in 2013. As a response, Netflix has launched the #MyNameIsnt campaign to motivate women to take back their power on the streets. Netflix is also urging people to use the hashtag on social media to share their own street harassment stories.
