Although Rihanna frequently sparks conversation with her wardrobe selections and musical selections, her attire on Thursday has many people talking—and a little alarmed.
It’s interesting that RiRi, who hasn’t released an album since 2016 and is now a mother of two, walked past the photographers wearing a graphic tee with the words “I’m Retired” emblazoned across the front on Thursday after getting out of an SUV in New York City.
In paparazzi pics posted online, the “We Found Love” singer was spotted outside with boyfriend A$AP Rocky wearing a vintage 90s Peacock Papers blue short-sleeved shirt that read: “I’m Retired. This Is as Dressed Up as I Get.”
As always, Rihanna’s fans were quick to read between the lines. Beyond her playful banter with the paparazzi, she remained tight-lipped, leaving it to her followers to interpret the meaning behind her ‘I’m Retired’ statement.
“Wait… Is she trying to send us a message?” one fan asked.
Another wrote, “She’s saying stop asking for an album.”
Rihanna’s refusal to put out new music in her fan base has turned into a mild joke. The singer of “Umbrella” has since started several businesses, such as Savage X Fenty, Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin, and now Fenty Hair. However, she hasn’t released an album since “Anti” in 2016.
Beneath the “I’m Retired” screen print, there’s another phrase, but it’s difficult to read clearly. RiRi appears to be purposefully covering that section of the shirt with her upscale handbag.
