Mary J. Blige, the undisputed Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, has returned to the spotlight with her uplifting new single, “Breathing,” featuring Fabolous.

Released through her label, Beautiful Life Music, in partnership with 300 Entertainment, the track is a nostalgic nod to Blige’s signature blend of R&B and hip-hop.

Producer S. Dot creatively samples Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ 1956 classic “I Put a Spell on You,” infusing it with a hip-hop soul twist that perfectly complements Blige’s smooth vocals and Fabolous’ laid-back flow.

The single kicks off with Fabolous delivering a verse packed with clever wordplay, including references to The Notorious B.I.G.’s 1997 hit “Kick in the Door” and Blige’s iconic anthem “Not Gon’ Cry.”

As Blige enters in the second verse, she delivers a performance that reminds listeners why she remains a powerhouse in the genre she helped shape.

“Those things you do to me / Leaves a lasting impression on my heart / There’s no second best / I’ve had my wasted times but no regrets,” Blige sings with her trademark soulfulness.

The track takes listeners on a journey of love and rediscovery, as Blige openly expresses her excitement and freedom in a new relationship.

In lines like “I’m always excited to see ya / Never really felt this freedom / I think to myself: Is this real or can I be dreaming?” she captures the joy of newfound love while maintaining the grit that fans have always loved about her music.

With “Breathing,” Mary J. Blige showcases a fresh yet familiar sound, blending her iconic style with modern elements that make the track both timeless and relevant.

The single is poised to become another classic in Blige’s extensive catalog, continuing her legacy as a trailblazer in hip-hop soul.
