New York’s Housewives’ “friend” Bershan Shaw is defending Ramona Singer after the cast member was labeled a “racist” by viewers.
“I met Ramona in the summer, and Ramona and I hit it off,” she told daytime talk show host Wendy Williams. “She and I really did hit it off. And Ramona is a straight shooter, which I love. She’s bold, she’s in your face, [and] she tells it like it is.”
Bershan said that Ramona “lives in her bubble.” She doesn’t believe it goes much deeper than that when it comes to the entrepreneur.
“Ramona is definitely not a racist. What she is is she lives in her bubble. So what we have to understand is everyone doesn’t grow up in a diverse background. Everyone doesn’t grow up around African-Americans, Hispanics, and all of that stuff. So in her bubble, she lives the way she lives, but we hit it off,” she says.
We don’t think that’s an excuse for ignorance.
While Eboni K. Williams made history by becoming the show’s first Black Housewife, Bersha also entered the franchise this season as a “friend of the show.”
Bershan, a business coach and motivational speaker, also admitted to tension between her and Eboni. They are the show’s only Housewives of color.
“People did think that we would get along right away. And I gotta tell you, I thought that we would get along right away, you know, sista to sista. I think I can be a lot. I’m a big personality. I’m like, ‘Hey, girl!’ And different people handle you differently.”
“She’s reserved,” she continued. “So it didn’t take well because I think some things I said may have offended her. I didn’t mean to, I’m just thinking this is sister talk. I’m thinking, ‘Girl we’re having a good time,’ and it was like, ‘Oh, okay.'”
