The supermodel spoke candidly about her experience drinking alcohol for the first time while celebrating her milestone birthday in Australia.
In an interview with People, the former Dancing With the Stars host disclosed that she had her first adult beverage to celebrate turning 50.
Tyra Banks told PEOPLE she was excited for the milestone birthday, but celebrating with a drink “wasn’t worth it.”
She disclosed that she waited until she was fifty years old to try alcohol, unlike many other people who tried it before they even reached the legal drinking age. But Banks admitted that she had tried it when she was twelve but hadn’t touched it since.
The former ‘America’s Next Top Model’ host shared that her mother and her best friend flew into Australia, where Banks lives with her 8-year-old son York, and boyfriend, Louis Bélanger-Martin, and it was during their celebrations that she had her first sip of alcohol.
“My mom and my best friend surprised me there, and it was so magical. We took a seaplane and had a meal in the middle of nowhere,” Banks shared.
“I even had an alcoholic drink for the first time!” she added.
In 2011, the supermodel opened up about her sobriety and her decision to abstain from alcohol.
“I feel like I’m very lucky because I don’t really have an addictive personality. I have never had any drugs, and I had a little taste of alcohol when I was 12 years old, but that’s about it.”
Apart from not enjoying her drink, the mother-of-one said the rest of her day was “so magical.”
Banks also revealed that she was looking forward to crossing the 50-year mark and embracing her age.
“I could not wait to be 50. “”I felt it was a rite of passage to be my true self. I like to challenge misconceptions about aging by saying, ‘Child, I’m 50!'” Tyra Banks revealed.
