Gymnastics G.O.A.T. has announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend, Jonathan Owens.
“WOKE UP A FIANCÉE 💍💍😭,” she captioned a post featuring several photographs of the momentous occasion. “I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more! let’s get married! 🕊🤎@jjowens_3.”
Biles met the Houston Texans football player in 2020 after matching on the Raya dating app.
“He would say I slid into his DMs,” Biles said in an interview with Wall Street Journal Magazine last year. “I saw him and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s pretty cute,’ so I said ‘hi’… and then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later.”
Owens told Texas Monthly also told January 2021 that the pandemic allowed them time to know each other better.
“It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn’t do anything,” he said. “So we used it to get to know each other—really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger. Now I’m so thankful.”
The timing of her beau’s proposal is impeccable.
In a recent interview with Net-A-Porter, Biles reflected on her controversial Olympics experience. She told the outlet that she planned to take a break from gymnastics to spend more time with her loved ones.
“I think a lot of good things came from taking a different route at the Olympics,” she told the outlet of her decision to withdraw. “I do believe everything happens for a reason.”
“My self-care routine looks a little bit different than pulling out of the Olympics,” she says. Specifically, it involves “taking baths, going to the spa, having movie nights with my boyfriend and spending time at the pool with my dogs.”
