Supermodel and fashion icon Adut Atem took to Instagram last month to share a candid message about friendship, warning her followers to be mindful of those in their inner circle.
While reflecting on an unsettling experience in Beverly Hills, Atem recalled an acquaintance whose demeanor shifted in a way that felt deeply revealing.
“This girl was staring at me—not just a regular stare. She looked disgusted, like ‘ugh’,” Atem described what she called the Jealous Stare. “They do it out of their subconsciousness. They’re not aware. Pay attention to the people you surround yourself with.”
Atem’s words resonated widely, echoing sentiments previously highlighted by TikTok creator Delisa Steyer, who has spoken about identifying insincere relationships.
The model also spoke about the importance of discernment, stating:
“Some people are just there for the benefits…to get to know your life, your friends, and then go behind your back to stop you. Be careful and be prayed up.”

Her video triggered a plethora of comments, most of them backing her observation.
“So true, I’m glad someone is talking about it…. I noticed this a long time ago, and since then I started paying attention,” one social media user said.
Another remarked jokingly:
“Helllo!!! I would stare too!! You are stunning
I mean your skin…. OMG I love
o”
Known for her trendsetting fashion and avant-garde style, Atem has built a loyal following not just for her daring runway presence but also for her authenticity and personal insights.
