Renowned afro and textured hairstylist, Charlotte Mensah, made history as the first Black woman to be inducted into the prestigious British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame.
With over three decades of experience in the industry, Mensah’s recognition in 2018 came as a testament to her outstanding contributions and achievements.
Having clinched the title of Best Afro Hairdresser of the Year three times (in 2013, 2014, and 2017) at the Hairdresser’s Journal annual event, Mensah stands out as a trailblazer in her field.
Reflecting on her latest accolade at the time, Mensah told the British Vogue that she was filled with gratitude and humility for her induction into the Hall of Fame, emphasizing the significance of being the first black woman to receive this esteemed award.
“I hope that I can act as an inspiration to the younger generation who might want to get into hairdressing – to show that anything is possible if you stay focused, work hard and follow your gut,” Mensah remarked, highlighting her desire to empower aspiring hairstylists, particularly those from diverse backgrounds.
As the founder of Hair Lounge, a renowned salon located in London’s Notting Hill, Mensah has established herself as a leader in the natural haircare movement. Her salon has become a go-to destination for individuals with natural afro, mixed, and curly textured hair, attracting a clientele that includes celebrities like Jada Smith, Erykah Badu, and Janelle Monae.
Mensah’s holistic approach to haircare extends beyond the salon, reflected in her eponymous range of sustainable, organic, and ethical hair products.
