Jessica Jones and Wendy Lopez, registered dietitians and founders of the media brand Food Heaven, are combatting the diabetes epidemic head-on with their latest venture, Diabetes Digital.

This virtual nutrition counseling service aims to revolutionize the management of diabetes and pre-diabetes, especially among marginalized communities.

According to the Office of Minority Health, African American adults are 60% more likely than non-Hispanic white adults to be diagnosed with diabetes by a physician.

Factors such as racism and limited access to quality care contribute to this disparity, putting diabetes patients at a higher risk of heart disease and mortality.

Recognizing the urgent need for change, Jones and Lopez launched Diabetes Digital to provide weight-inclusive and culturally competent care.

Their platform offers comprehensive hour-long appointments and virtual consultations in Spanish, catering to the diverse needs of clients across 23 states.

Moreover, Diabetes Digital welcomes Medicare customers and accepts various forms of insurance, including Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Health Net, and United.

Jones said:

“Diabetes Digital is more than a platform; it’s a movement towards a more personalized and empathetic approach to diabetes care.”

Lopez echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of representation in health and wellness.

“If wellness is constantly marketed as exclusive to white women, people don’t see themselves represented,” she explained. “It’s crucial to have diverse representations of wellness for all individuals.”

With their innovative approach, Jones and Lopez are empowering individuals to take control of their health and redefine wellness on their own terms.

Through Diabetes Digital, they’re not only providing essential support but also fostering a community where everyone feels seen and valued in their journey towards better health.
