Solange without a doubt, is one of the most influential Black women in the music industry. Our love for Solo knows no bounds, so it’s fitting that this year, Billboard will be honoring the “Cranes In The Sky” singer at their annual Solange Billboard Women in Music Awards with their prestigious American Express Impact Award, the first of its kind.
The Billboard Women in Music Awards, which takes place Thursday (Nov. 30th) is to be hosted by Billboard’s 2008 Woman of the Year Ciara, and will honor many powerful women in today’s music industry.
“The Billboard Women in Music event was created to spotlight female trailblazers in the music industry,”Dana Miller, Chief Marketing Officer, The Hollywood Reporter – Billboard Media Group explained. “Whether entertaining sold-out crowds or signing the next big artist, the women we celebrate are powerful leaders and pioneers, creating inspirational legacies and opening doors.”
According to Billboard, The American Express Impact Award honors women who “uses her voice to empower and develop new leaders of tomorrow through their on-air persona, platform, and philanthropic efforts to inspire social change across the masses.”
This year alone, Solange had put on a secret concert to raise funds for the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, teamed up with Odd Future rapper Earl Sweatshirt to raise money for L.A. Chef Alisa Reynolds‘ legal fees, joining forces with Insecure creator, Issa Rae and is a champion of the cultural arts.
