Amber Rose set off a social media firestorm aimed at MSNBC host Joy Reid. Earlier, Reid questioned Amber Rose’s credibility and ‘blackness’ following her speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC).
The model responded to Reid’s criticism of her speech on the first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Monday, in which Reid addressed Black viewers directly and labeled Rose “racially ambiguous.”
“It’s ironic that they were able to recruit this young woman, who is racially ambiguous. I don’t want to say she’s black because she says she’s not. This woman, who is whatever race she is, because she says she’s not black. But they’ve brought somebody whose whole career is based in black culture,” Reid began her critique.
She continued, “And the fact that she is now the person they are using to try to recruit young people of color and say that this is the person who is the endorser of Donald Trump who you should trust when she won’t even claim the culture that brought her to the table?”
Reid’s supporters quickly defended her position, claiming that Rose’s involvement in the RNC and support for Trump contradicted the values she claims to represent.
However, Amber Rose was not having it, and she responded with a series of tweets, defending her right to engage across the political spectrum.
Rose responded to Reid’s remarks via X, condemning her for “race-baiting.”
“Hi @JoyAnnReid, I’ve never said I wasn’t black. I said I identify as biracial,” she said. “I’m not going to invalid my white father to make you feel more comfortable. Stop being a race-baiter. Your president does enough race-baiting for all of us.”
Amber Rose addressed race during her convention speech, stating that “Donald Trump and his supporters don’t care if you’re Black, white, gay, or straight; it’s all love. And that’s when it struck me. These are my people; this is where I belong.”
One thing for certain is that Amber Rose isn’t afraid to speak her mind, even if it ruffles feathers. It will be interesting to see how Joy Reid reacts to Rose’s latest tweets and how this plays out in the coming days.
