Rep. Ilhan Omar has fired back at President Donald Trump after he made mean-spirited remarks about her during a recent campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
“She’s telling us how to run our country. How did you do where you came from? How was your country doing?” Trump said of Omar, a US citizen who fled Somalia as a refugee.
Omar made history last year when she became the first Somali-American and one of the first Muslim women to serve in the US House Representatives.
She shared a snippet of Trump’s comments on Twitter.
“Firstly, this is my country & I am a member of the House that impeached you,” she tweeted alongside the clip. “Secondly, I fled civil war when I was 8. An 8-year-old doesn’t run a country even though you run our country like one.”
This is not the first nor the second time Trump has gone after Omar.
Last July, he tweeted: “So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” he wrote.
“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”
