Watch The Gripping New Trailer For The Roxanne Shante Biopic, ‘ROXANNE ROXANNE’

Queens, New York, MC Roxanne Shanté broke through in the 80s when her B-side single “Roxanne, Roxanne” achieved critical acclaim.

On March 23rd, Netflix will be bringing the hip-hop legend’s story to the masses by way of the ‘ROXANNE ROXANNE’ biopic. The biopic, which was filmed back in 2016, and later premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival last year. The Queensbridge rapper waited until the festival to watch the film.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, she said:

“Everything was the truth, so I can’t alter the truth,” she says. “And whatever happened, what can I do about that – we can’t rewrite history. So, I prefer to see it when everyone else sees it. When people see me at Sundance, the reaction they see that night will be my true reaction.”

The film stars Shanté Adams as the Roxanne Shanté alongside Nia Long and Mahershala Ali.
