Personal development coach Raquel Hopkins is drawing attention online after sharing a message about personal growth that challenges the idea that self-improvement must always focus on revisiting childhood experiences.
In a recent Instagram post, Hopkins told followers that growth is not solely about unpacking past trauma but about learning how to navigate present-day realities such as fear, sadness, uncertainty, and personal potential.
“Some of us don’t need to keep talking about our childhood,” Hopkins wrote. “At some point growth becomes less about unpacking the past and more about how you relate to life now.”

In an accompanying video, Hopkins explained that people often think of relationships only in terms of other individuals—such as parents, partners, or friends. However, she said individuals also develop relationships with emotions and experiences.
“You have a relationship with fear. You have a relationship with sadness. You have a relationship with pain,” Hopkins said in the video. “Growth is not just unpacking your childhood. It’s questioning the relationship that you’ve developed with the realities of life and deciding how you want to relate to those things moving forward.”
Hopkins describes this concept as “capacity,” which she frames as the ability to face life’s challenges while taking responsibility for how one responds to them.
The post also promoted Hopkins’ upcoming six-week live program called Rise Above, which she said will focus on helping participants explore their responses to life experiences and build emotional capacity. Hopkins noted that the program will be conducted in partnership with Scott Barry Kaufman.
According to Hopkins, the program aims to help participants examine their relationship with change, uncertainty, and personal responsibility while developing tools for emotional resilience.
The message resonated with many followers online, where discussions around mental health and self-development frequently center on balancing past experiences with present-day coping strategies.
