Skai Jackson is going viral after getting candid about how she handles money requests from family and friends, making it clear she keeps firm boundaries when it comes to lending cash and doesn’t feel pressured to explain herself.
Speaking on the Justin Laboy podcast, Skai explained that her response to financial requests is immediate and simple. “I just say no. I just say no,” she said. “This is why I just say no. Because if you say, ‘no, but this is why…’ they can find a way. There can be a response. If you just say no, there’s no response for them to say. It’s just like, ‘oh, she said no. Okay.’ You have to say no.”
She went on to describe how she distinguishes between close relationships and people who only reach out when they need financial help. According to her, the contrast is clear in her personal life. “And people real close to me, like my best, best friend, they have never even asked me for money,” she said. “And then there are people like I haven’t heard from in years. And they are like, ‘ohhh, my card is not working, can you get me an Uber?’… And I said, ‘That’s not my problem.’”
Skai also opened up about how she approaches generosity in relationships, saying she does show love through gestures, just not in the form of constant financial support. “I will do nice things. Maybe if there’s a dinner, I might pay for the bill. Not every time, though, of course. I’m good at birthday gifts. I like doing birthday gifts. I will say that,” she explained.
When asked about the most expensive gift she has ever given a man, her answer was surprisingly low-key. “I don’t know. Some food or something,” she said.
Her comments have since sparked widespread conversation online, with many debating her strict approach to financial boundaries and what it means to navigate money, friendships, and relationships as a celebrity.
