Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese isn’t letting online trolls undermine her groundbreaking first season in the WNBA.
The 22-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) to address a comment criticizing her layups, silencing doubters with an impressive list of accomplishments during her debut season.
“Do you realize I got drafted 7th in my class while ‘missing layups’ as a ROOKIE shooting 39% on the year & was STILL an All-Star… that was the worst you’ll ever see me??” Reese clapped back, highlighting her rapid rise in the league.
A Stellar Debut Year
Drafted by the Sky as the 7th overall pick in 2024, Reese made waves with her record-breaking performance. According to ESPN, she became the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double.
Additionally, she set another league record by achieving 20 double-doubles in just 27 games—a milestone reached faster than any other player, per Sports Illustrated.
Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds before her season ended prematurely due to a wrist injury in September.
Reflecting on her journey, Reese tweeted:
“Through it all, I have shown that I belong in this league even when no one else believed… I’m filled with emotions… but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next.”
Looking Ahead to Year Two
Despite her injury, Reese remains optimistic about her future in the WNBA.
“What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3, but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2,” she joked in another tweet.
Resilience in the Face of Criticism
Reese’s response to the troll exemplifies her determination and confidence.
Her focus remains on proving herself on the court, and her historic rookie season is proof that she’s more than capable of thriving at the professional level.
