Baby Tate boldly defended her ‘distinctive’ style, shutting down comparisons to Minaj’s iconic animated delivery.
The American rapper has found herself at the center of a controversy after releasing her “From The Block” freestyle on February 8.
The energetic video shows the Atlanta rapper delivering her sexualized raps from The Block freestyle video of “Grip” with her quirky facial expressions.
While Baby Tate’s video has received positive feedback, some fans believe her animated delivery and stylized appearance are identical to that of Nicki Minaj’s rap.
“Sounds like you have potential, but looks like you’re biting Nicki Minaj’s style too much. You will always be compared to her if you don’t develop your own looks and mannerisms,” one fan said.
Baby Tate took to social media to address the accusation head-on.
“Nicki Minaj is not the first or last person to blink their fucking eyes, tilt their head, or be, in a general sense, animated in rap or any other genre. I am a THEATER GIRL. I am and will forever be animated, silly, goofy, have fun, and fully express the way I so CHOOSE. If you, in your limited mind, can only see someone else when I do that, it’s not on me. I’m Baby Tate. PERIOD. Tnx. Toodles,” she said assertively.
Baby Tate continued, “I am and will forever be animated, silly, goofy, have fun and fully express that the way I so CHOOSE. If you, in your limited mind, can only see someone else when I do that, it’s not on me. I’m Baby Tate. PERIOD.”
Remember, in 2022, Baby Tate admitted it hurts that Nicki Minaj ignores her while interacting with artists who can’t rap.
She revealed Nicki has never responded to her after years of giving the “Pink Friday” rapper her flowers. She also pointed out that she had one of the most viewed videos on Nicki Minaj’s challenge.
Interestingly, Nicki Minaj has remained silent on the accusations, preferring focus on her preparation for her ‘Pink Friday 2’ world tour.
