Business coach and content creator Afnan Khalifa is sounding the alarm on a mindset she believes is trapping a generation of women in financial dependency: glamorizing being “spoiled” by a man as a life strategy.
In a recent viral Instagram video, Khalifa delivers a thought-provoking message:
“Being spoiled by a man should be a bonus, not your business plan.”
Her post, captioned “A man should spoil you & will do.. but make sure that’s not your ONLY business plan in life,” challenges the increasingly popular trend of idealizing luxury funded by romantic partners.
“Romanticizing being spoiled instead of being paid is why so many women stay broke,” Khalifa says in the video. “It’s not cute, it’s a trap.”

She criticizes the cultural shift that prioritizes being “chosen, pampered, and spoiled” over building independence and wealth. Khalifa’s commentary focuses on the long-term emotional and financial risks that can come with relying on others for one’s lifestyle.
“You teach your nervous system to associate money with men, not with mastery,” she explains.
According to Khalifa, this dependency can cause women to tolerate disrespect or stay silent in uncomfortable situations out of fear that the benefits will be taken away.
“But when you pay for it yourself, you don’t owe anyone anything. That’s the real freedom,” she said.
Khalifa’s call-to-action has struck a chord with thousands of viewers who see her message as a reminder that true empowerment is about ownership—not outsourcing.
