It’s not every day we see black girl magic flourishing all over our
timelines on social media, television screens or magazine covers but Sports Illustrated decided to gift everyone this Valentine’s Day with three fabulous African American models gracing us in the magazine.
Danielle Herrington, who is a two-time SI Swimsuit model is living her dream as she is the cover girl for the 2018 edition. SI invited her as a surprise, Herrington who thought she was meeting to do a virtual reality shoot finds herself bumping into legendary supermodel Tyra Banks. After embracing a legend, Banks along with others then reveal her as the new cover girl for the swimsuit edition. It’s also a triumphant moment for her as she is the third
Black model to be on the cover, coming in behind Tyra Banks and Beyoncé.
Along with Herrington’s awesome cover we have Tabria Majors and Sloan Stephens giving us life and body goals as a rookie finalist!
Majors, who’s a plus size model went from working as a part-time maid to becoming this phenomenal model and speaking up against body shamers and promoting body positivity.
Then there’s Stephens who’s a tennis player and the winner of the 2017 U.S Open; she makes her debut in the swimsuit edition. When asked how she felt about posing with SI Stephens’ stated, “I’ve always loved the beauty of the SI Swimsuit issue and thought it would be incredible to one day be a part of it. I honestly never thought I’d have the opportunity. When the opportunity was presented, I immediately said yes because I felt really honored to be a part of it.”
