Black Woman Appeals For Support To Save Brooklyn’s First Haitian-Owned 2D Café

by Gee NY

Brooklyn’s first-ever 2D café, Kravings 2D Kafe, is celebrating its one-year anniversary, but the road has been far from easy for owners Elveda Dorce and Zayveon Kimble.

Despite offering a unique and exciting experience—featuring rolled ice cream, smoothies, acai bowls, waffle sticks, and more—made with fresh, preservative-free ingredients, the couple’s small business is struggling to stay afloat.

“We are doing everything we can,” says Elveda in a video posted on IG, “but business has not been doing well. We don’t know if it’s because of the area or just the challenges that come with running a small, Black-owned business. We are very active on social media and in our marketing, but we need the community’s support more than ever.”

Kravings 2D Kafe, located at 2171 Utica Ave in Brooklyn, NY, is not just a café—it’s a family-owned dream brought to life.

Elveda and Zayveon took a chance on the business, inspired by the lack of rolled ice cream options in Brooklyn. Their vibrant 2D art-themed café has quickly become known for its mouthwatering hand-rolled ice cream, delicious acai bowls, and fun milkshakes.

Their golden Oreo flavor and s’mores ice cream are particularly popular with regulars, and they also offer healthier options like fruit sorbets and fresh juices.

But despite their hard work and dedication, the café is struggling to attract the customers it needs to survive.

“We are a family, and everything is out of pocket. A lot of people don’t know we’re open,” Elveda shares. “The area we’re in might be part of the reason, but honestly, I think this is a place people should know about. Making hand-rolled ice cream is not easy, especially when we’re making each order fresh for our customers.”
