A Boston woman known for her devotion to her dogs was tragically killed on Monday, Nov. 18, when one of her pets turned on her in a fatal attack.
Jeriline Brady-McGinnis, described by loved ones as “the heart and soul” of her family, died from injuries sustained during the mauling.
Family and Community Remember a Loving Caregiver
In a statement, Brady-McGinnis’ children paid tribute to their mother, highlighting her loving nature and unwavering care for her pets.
“Our mother was a loving and caring mother. The heart and soul of our family is gone,” the stated said.
Known for her nightly routine of cooking meals for her dogs, Brady-McGinnis treated them as cherished members of her family.
Neighbor Jean McGuire, 93, recalled her friend’s deep bond with her animals.
“She’s very close to her animals, almost like children,” McGuire told CBS. “She took good care of them. She walked them every day.”
The Attack
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at the couple’s home. Brady-McGinnis and her husband were attacked by one of their dogs, identified by CBS as a pit bull named Buddha.
When officers arrived, the dog was not initially on the property but returned and attacked the responding officers.
Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin confirmed that the officers, faced with the aggressive behavior of the dog, discharged their weapons, killing it.
“Given what he had done to the two victims,” McLaughlin said during a press conference, “the officers made the decision to discharge and to put the dog down.”
Injuries and Aftermath
First responders administered aid to the couple before transporting them to a hospital. Brady-McGinnis succumbed to her injuries, which were described as life-threatening.
Her husband sustained serious injuries but survived. Two officers involved in the incident were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The death of Brady-McGinnis has left the Boston community reeling, as friends and family struggle to reconcile the loving nature of the devoted dog owner with the violence of the attack.
