Candace Owens, the right-wing political commentator who has consistently spoken up against LGBTQ+ rights, has been suspended from YouTube after remarks she made about the community.

The 34-year-old’s wildly popular news site The Daily Wire, in addition to its YouTube channel, has been known to spew hatred and abysmal rhetoric against the LGBTQ+ community in the past. In a recent episode on her YouTube channel, her co-host, Michael Knowles, explained that he would be hosting the show alone because of Owen’s suspension.

“YouTube, you see, hates us,” Knowles said while the show streamed directly on its website rather than the video-sharing platform.

“With its vague – some are calling them tyrannical – guidelines and their proclivity to censor conservative voices has once again banned my friend Candace from posting or appearing on any of the Daily Wire’s YouTube channels.”

Knowles further added that “every one of us here at The Daily Wire has been in YouTube jail for one reason or another.”

It is unclear how long Owens will be off the air and it is not immediately known what exactly she said about the LGBTQ+ community that had her removed from YouTube in the first place, but a YouTube spokesperson told PinkNews that: “We issued a strike to the Candace Owens Podcast channel for violating our hate speech policy, which prohibits content promoting hatred against protected individuals or groups, including the LGBTQ+ community.”

Earlier this year, the conservative pundit’s YouTube content was demonetized for her continued use of misgendering trans people, which the platform said was in breach of its “hateful conduct” policy.

As it stands, YouTube reserves the right to permanently ban anyone who violates its policy after a third offense. Known as the “three strike” system, should anyone violate the terms and conditions of the platform within a 90-day period, they can be restricted from the platform for life.
