Cardi B claims her divorce from Offset is being delayed because Offset is holding her hostage with demands.
During a Twitter Spaces session on September 22, she disclosed that the process is lengthy due to Offset’s “wild” requests. Cardi explained that Offset refuses to sign the divorce papers unless she agrees to pay his back taxes, hand over millions, and even give him one of her properties.
“I’m still tied to that marriage on contract because this man wants me to pay all his taxes, give him millions of dollars, and one of my properties,” she shared with her fans. “Nahh, I have to fight for that. That’s what I’m fighting for. I can’t stop living my life because someone wants to keep me hostage.”
The couple got married in Atlanta in 2017, and they have three children together. Cardi filed for divorce in Fulton County, Georgia, in August 2024, seeking primary custody without requesting spousal support. Offset, on the other hand, has asked for joint custody, and they are also at odds over how to divide their assets, including their $7 million mansion in Atlanta. To complicate matters further, Offset is reportedly dealing with $2 million in tax liens, which could be a reason behind some of his demands.
The divorce saga comes at a time when Cardi is entering a new chapter in her life. She has announced that she’s expecting a child with NFL star Stefon Diggs. Fans have observed that she appears more dedicated than ever to her family, career, and her new album, “Am I The Drama?”
Meanwhile, Offset has been open about his perspective on marriage. In various podcasts, he has cautioned men against marriage, sharing a rather bleak view of it. Despite his strong words, he seems reluctant to finalize his divorce from Cardi.
“I gave seven good years of my life to that marriage,” Cardi remarked. While she has emotionally moved on, the legal aspects of their split are still ongoing.
