Dr. Alfiee Breland-Noble Urges Women to Embrace Sponsorship: ‘Together, We Rise’

by Gee NY

In an inspiring message shared by the American Psychological Association (APA), Psychologist Dr. Alfiee Breland-Noble calls on women to go beyond mentorship and embrace sponsorship for one another.

“Every woman deserves a sponsor—someone who will champion her in spaces that count,” Dr. Breland-Noble explained in the video posted on Oct. 7, highlighting the transformative power of sponsorship over mentorship.

While a mentor offers support and guidance, a sponsor actively advocates for a woman’s professional growth.

“A sponsor is a person who sees a door of opportunity, walks you to that door, opens the door, and stays until you’re given a chance,” Dr. Breland-Noble, who is also the founder of the AAKOMA Project, said, stressing the importance of showing up for each other in impactful ways.

Encouraging women to uplift each other through proactive advocacy, Dr. Breland-Noble urged:

“If you’re not already a sponsor for someone, choose a woman in your circle and become her advocate.”

Her powerful call to action resonated with the APA’s mission to support mental health professionals and foster inclusive communities.

This message underscores the potential for collective success through empowerment and commitment to women’s advancement.

Dr. Breland-Noble’s message, “Together, we rise,” reminds us that true progress hinges on supporting each other within and beyond professional spaces.
