Reports trickling in on Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, say a Florida woman has been arrested and charged after allegedly leaving a sleeping kid on board her bus while she ran errands.

Multiple reports say the bus driver Elizabeth Carrero, 33, picked up the four-year-old girl at 7:30 a.m. on Sept 19 along with 11 other kids of the school day.

However, the little girl fell asleep on the bus to Henry ES Reeves K-8 Centre Primary Academy and Carrero then allegedly began to run errands with the child on board after dropping off the other kids.

CBS News reports that the driver dropped the rest of the kids off at 7:45 a.m. but the child who had remained on the bus apparently did not return to her parents until over three hours later.

According to NBC Miami, Carrero went to a bank, visited a mechanic, filled up on gas, and went to her home to make breakfast all while the child was still on the bus.

An arrest report states that a neighbor spotted the child “drenched in sweat” as she exited the bus, prompting the neighbor to knock on the door of Carrero’s home. Once alerted to the child’s presence, Carrero then called the girl’s parents — who subsequently arrived to pick up their child.

On Thursday, Carrero was arrested and charged with one count of child neglect, WSVN, NBC Miami and CBS Miami all reported. NBC Miami detailed that the driver was released from jail after posting bail.

Video footage shows what appeared to be Carrero walking out of jail earlier this week, covering her face.

The Miami-Dade Police Department and the child’s school have not commented on the issue.
