An 18-year-old Miami woman has been arrested and charged after she hired a hitman to kill her 3-year-old son, police say.
Authorities were tipped off to a form Jazmin Paez filled out on a parody hit-for-hire website created to “prevent legitimate solicitations to commit murders,” according to an affidavit from Miami-Dade police.
The website’s creator told police that a woman had placed a service request to put a hit out on a victim, which happened to be her son, according to police officials. After the form was submitted, the website owner called police and confirmed the credibility of the information provided on the form.
Investigators assigned to the case found it was Paez who filled out the form. She was subsequently arrested.
The suspect has been charged with first-degree solicitation of murder and third-degree using a communications device for unlawful use, according to police.
Paez appeared in court Wednesday and is being represented by the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office.
According to police documents, Paez typed in a fake name on the website and requested that her child be taken far away and “possibly be killed.” She further requested that the hit take place by Thursday, according to police.
Detectives were able to track down Paez by using an IP address and phone number obtained from the fake website. The information led them to the child’s grandmother’s house.
The grandmother confirmed the identity of her grandson after she was shown a picture his mother uploaded to the website. According to police, Paez agreed to pay $3,000 for the murder to take place.
The suspect is currently in custody. During questioning at the Miami-Dade Police Department, she said that she was in a relationship with someone who didn’t like that she had a son. She further added that she thought if she had her son killed, she would be able to rekindle her relationship with the person.
