Foxy Brown Pens Open Letter In Support Of Russell Simmons

by Yah Yah

Russell Simmons is currently in Bali, waiting out the storm after several women came forward to claim that he had sexually assaulted them several years back.

Foxy Brown, who released three albums on Def Jam during the peak of her career, penned an open letter via her Instagram page, sharing her support for the Def Jam mogul.

“Attesting to the character of the man who, as a teenager saved my life. Salaciousness and scandal garners headlines. Cowards cower during times of tumult. But as inarguably, Russell’s biggest Def Jam female protege, (who birthed an era of overtly evocative stars), the man I’ve known and loved, was nothing more than the respectful, respected, gentleman and GODFATHER OF HIP-HOP we’ve all adored. In staunch support, Praying for you Russ!”

Simmons has now been accused of sexual misconduct by 11 women.

Read Foxy Brown’s emotional post below. Responses to Brown’s letter has been mixed. Some were applauding her support of her former mentor while others are disappointed by her decision to publicly support an alleged sexual predator.

Just last week, his ex-wife also pledged her support to her former husband, stating:

“I add my voice to the chorus of those speaking out against harassment and violence in all its forms. I have known Russell for over 25 years. We were close friends, married, divorced, and have remained friends, co-parents and partners throughout it all. These allegations against him are nothing like the person I have known in all that time. I have known him to be a caring and supportive father and someone who has worked tirelessly to uplift disenfranchised communities.”
