Get Out made history when it became the highest-grossing film domestically directed by a black filmmaker. With a budget of $4.5 million, the film went on to make over $250 million worldwide.
The horror flick has done more than just make history. The term “Sunken Place” has become a cultural touchstone and a part of our everyday vocabulary. Though many times it is used humorously, the reality is that we are all battling to break free from from systematic injustice and oppression.
