A critically missing person alert has been issued for Angelina Petra Resendiz, a 21-year-old U.S. Navy sailor who vanished from her barracks at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia on May 29.
Authorities say her disappearance poses a credible threat to her safety, prompting concern from both military officials and her family.
The Virginia State Police issued the alert Tuesday night at the request of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), which is leading the search effort. NCIS officials stated that Resendiz may be in danger, although they have not yet released further details, citing an ongoing investigation.
“She just stopped existing Thursday,” Resendiz’s mother, Esmeralda Castle, told reporters. “This isn’t like Angie. I just want to find her.”

Resendiz was last seen at Miller Hall, a barracks facility on base. She is described as a 5-foot-tall white/Hispanic female, weighing approximately 110 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She does not have access to a vehicle, and her last known clothing is unknown. Authorities say she has not contacted family or friends and has not accessed any financial resources since her disappearance.
“This disappearance poses a credible threat to their health and safety as determined by the investigating agency,” the alert read.
NCIS spokesperson Jeff Houston confirmed that the agency is actively investigating the case and urges the public to come forward with any information that may help locate Resendiz.
Naval Station Norfolk, the world’s largest naval base, has yet to issue a public statement about the situation. The Virginia State Police clarified that they are not directly investigating, but rather facilitating the alert system for the NCIS.
Resendiz’s family says the young sailor has always been in close contact with them, making her sudden disappearance all the more troubling.
