Love Island USA star Huda Mustafa faced significant backlash when she laughed after a fan called Olandra Carthen a racial slur.
During a recent stream, Huda and her boyfriend, Louis Russell, known from Netflix’s Too Hot to Handle and Perfect Match, came under scrutiny after appearing to laugh when a caller used a racial slur against Huda’s Love Island co-star, Olandria Carthen. The viral clip, which quickly circulated on social media, showed them reacting to the racist comment before abruptly hanging up the call without addressing it, leaving many viewers disturbed by their silence and laughter.
Though some defended their demeanor as “uncomfortable,” the majority of viewers were disheartened that neither spoke up against the hate in real time.
Olandria Carthen, a model and influencer, later shared her thoughts on the incident in a thoughtful online post. She called for accountability and encouraged those involved to contribute to organizations that educate and uplift the Black community. Her message received widespread acclaim, with fans praising her for her dignified response.
In light of the situation, Huda Beauty, a billion-dollar cosmetics company founded by Huda Kattan, released a strong statement on October 31, announcing the termination of their partnership with Huda Mustafa. The brand emphasized that kindness and humanity are central to its values and expressed disappointment in Huda’s behavior, which it felt did not align with its principles. They acknowledged the seriousness of racism and confirmed that all marketing materials featuring Mustafa would be removed from their website, social media, and retail locations.
While the company recognized that her actions might not represent her entire character, they found them profoundly troubling. They stated, “Accountability is incredibly important in moments like this, and we hope that meaningful change can come from it.”
In the wake of the controversy, Huda Mustafa issued an apology on Instagram, stating her remorse for how the livestream unfolded and clarifying that she “didn’t mean to come off as dismissive.” However, many fans felt her apology was “too late” and seen as “damage control at best.”
As for Olandria, she has received a wave of support from fans and fellow cast members.
