A Bronx woman who sought medical care at Lincoln Hospital in Mott Haven has died after being brutally beaten by her hospital roommate, according to the New York Police Department.
Authorities say 55-year-old Cynthia Vann was admitted to the hospital for liver treatment when the incident occurred. While resting in her room, Vann was attacked in her sleep by her roommate, who allegedly had a documented history of violent behavior.
The assault left Vann with severe injuries requiring emergency surgery. Despite efforts to save her life, she died two weeks later.
Her daughter, Taneisha, is devastated by the loss. “It’s heartbreaking. I’m broken inside. It’s very difficult. My mom was my support system. She was really all I had,” she told News 12.

Police sources said the suspect fled and is currently on the run. Taneisha added that the attack has left her grappling with more pain as her mother’s 56th birthday approaches.
“She didn’t deserve that,” she said.
The case raises questions about hospital safety measures and patient protections, especially when individuals with histories of violent behavior are placed in shared medical rooms.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities search for the suspect.
