Vice President Kamala Harris faced an unexpected disruption during her visit to Phoenix on Friday, March 8, as her motorcade was targeted with red liquid by a woman.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. near 7th Street and Southern Avenue on March 8, coinciding with Harris’ campaign visit to the area.
According to the Phoenix Police, a woman standing on a sidewalk near the path of the motorcade threw the red liquid, which landed on eight Phoenix Police officers riding motorcycles as part of the convoy.
Despite the disturbance, the motorcade continued its route without further interruption.
Sergeant Phil Krynsky stated:
“The motor officers were able to continue the motorcade as they progressed through their route. Other officers in the area were able to locate and arrest the woman responsible.”
The alleged perpetrator, identified as 30-year-old Anasilvia Gomez-Zamora, has been taken into custody. Some reports identify the woman as a pro-Palestine protestor.
She faces charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, endangerment, and resisting arrest. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that the liquid was non-hazardous.
Vice President Harris was in Phoenix as part of her “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” tour, advocating for women’s rights.
This marked her fourth visit to Arizona since taking office, emphasizing the significance of the state in national political campaigns.
