Kelly Rowland has shared her version of the story, recounting a tense encounter with a security guard at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Mea Culpa star addressed the incident in an interview with the Associated Press after the video of her being aggressive towards a security guard during the Marcello Mio premiere surfaced.
In the video, we see Rowland, along with other guests, being escorted up the stairs by security personnel. She steps onto the stairs, maintaining her composure and posing for the cameras.
A female security guard manning the event held Rowland’s arm up behind her as she ascended a flight of stairs as if to direct her away from the throng and inside the venue.
In addition, the woman in the black pantsuit seemed to speak to Rowland or the security guard standing to the songstress’ right.
Whatever happened did not sit well with Rowland, who turned to face the female employee immediately. The Grammy winner seemed to chastise the woman in front of everyone, holding up her left pointer finger with a frown.
Speaking about the incident at the amfAR Cannes Gala in France on Thursday, May 23, Rowland explained her side and isn’t making any apologies for her recent outburst.
“The woman knows what happened. I know what happened, and I have a boundary and stand by those boundaries. And that is it.
“Other women who did not quite look like me attended that red carpet, and they didn’t get scolded, pushed off, or told to get off,” she continued. And I stood my ground. She felt like she had to stand hers, but I stood my ground.”
“And that was it,” Kelly Rowland concluded.
On Wednesday, Page Six revealed that an insider provided the following explanation for the incident.
“The people assigned to helping stars walk the red carpet were being aggressive, and Kelly was trying to ignore it. By the time [Rowland] got to the last woman, she had had it because she scolded Kelly and told her to move when she was trying to wave to fans and help the paparazzi get their shot.”
According to the insider, Rowland “wanted to set a clear boundary,” consistent with her remarks regarding the issue.
