Lizzo has responded to a bizarre rumor that she once killed a fan at a concert by stage diving and landing on them.
“So, I’ve seen a lot of annoying things about me on the internet but the thing that bothers me the most is this rumor that I stage-dived at a concert and killed somebody. Like, that rumor, it’s a lie, first of all. I’ve never stage dived in my life and b-tch, how, like– killed somebody!? Y’all really gon’ put that on my motherf–kin’ name? Like, I know I’m big but b-tch, I’m not that f–kin’ big.”
Lizzo then demonstrates her point by diving onto her bed. And her point is valid. There was barely any movement.
Being a fuller-figured woman in the industry has caused Lizzo to be the source of many a joke, meme or punchline. And it’s tiring.
In December, she opened up in an emotional TikTok video to her fans while battling a bout of insecurity.
“I came home and I took my clothes off to take a shower and I just started having all of these really negative thoughts about myself,” she said in the video. “Like, you know, ‘What’s wrong with me? Maybe everything, [and] all the mean things people say about me are true.’ And, you know, ‘Why am I so disgusting?’ And [I was] hating my body.”
“Normally, I would have some positive thing to say to get me out of this, but I don’t, and that’s ok too,” she continued. “I think these are normal [thoughts and feelings] and they happen to everybody, they happen to the best of us.”
She continued, “I can only hope that it changes for the better,” she said. “I know I’m beautiful, I just don’t feel it. But, I know I’m gonna get through it.”
