A woman who dated a deranged murderer is now dead after he killed her before taking his own life in Houston Thursday.
Police say Milton Wayne Cole lured the uncle of Ja’Dee Turner out of his home before shooting her to death. He then shot and killed himself. They were both found dead in her bedroom moments later.
Family members told KTRK that the 32-year-old woman had just broken up with Cole two weeks ago. They had been dating for about a year.
They further added that there were no signs of abuse during the relationship and that the breakup seemed amicable, although they do admit that he appeared to be controlling. In hindsight, they think Turner ignored red flags because she thought he was a good person.
“This is unbelievable. This is unreal,” Turner’s sister, Jadairria Turner, said. “This guy, you know, he seemed cool but… You just never know. It’s a disguise.”
Authorities say that shortly after 2 a.m., Cole had been texting Turner’s uncle and persuaded him to come to the gate of the apartment complex where he and Turner lived. In the meantime, the ex-boyfriend sat in his car and waited for the uncle to leave.
“It’s very unfortunate what happened here tonight. But he took some time to lie in wait, plan this out, to get her alone to do what he did,” Lt. I. Izaguirre said. “I don’t know why he would do it or why it would get to this level. Only they’ll know and unfortunately, neither one can tell us.”
Turner was a medical professional at Houston Methodist and was working to build a health-conscious juicing business.
“She didn’t deserve that. She didn’t,” her cousin, Lashee Jones, said.
“You can’t make somebody be with you if they want to move on. Just try and go get some counseling. Counseling is real,” Turner’s stepmom, Leticia Jackson Turner, said.
Her family advises anyone in an abusive relationship to leave the situation immediately.
“Get out. It’s not a joke. It’s not a joke. We lost her and his family also lost him,” Jones said.
