A Ugandan woman’s boyfriend is showing just how far a man can go to prove his love – even if it means going to jail for it.

On July 28, Musa Semwogerere, a newly appointed magistrate, decided he would show his love by illegally posing as his girlfriend to take a law examination on her behalf. When test administrators spotted that the test taker was not the correct person, they had him arrested and taken into custody at the Law Development Centre (LDC) in Lira.

Reports say the suspect, known as Mukisa Anthony, was caught red-handed while taking the exam for his girlfriend, Irene Mutonyi. He had just been promoted to the rank of grade one magistrate by the Judicial Service Commission two weeks before he was caught posing as a woman, according to a report in Pulse.

He is charged with two counts of forgery and will be released from jail today, according to the report.

Frank Nigel Othembi, director of the Law Development Centre, said Semwogerere’s conduct violated Section 351 of the Penal Code Act and Impersonation contrary to Section 381 of the Penal Code Act.

“We reported the matter to the Police and he has been charged with two counts of uttering a false document contrary to Section 351 of the Penal Code Act and Impersonation contrary to Section 381 of the Penal Code Act and remanded to prison till August 3, 2023. We will ensure that this case is prosecuted fully to its conclusion, including all other culpable persons,” the LDC boss said in a statement.

Since the suspect’s violation of the law, the Ugandan judiciary has reportedly confirmed that his appointment by the Judicial Service Commission would be revoked.
